In the upcoming 16th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Mumbai Indians’ regular skipper, Rohit Sharma, may sit out. He will be on rest for a few matches to manage his workload.
The flamboyant batter Suryakumar Yadav leading the team in his absence. This decision has a purpose to keep Rohit fit for the clash of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23. As per a report, Rohit will selectively choose the IPL matches he will play this season
while continuing to travel with the team and guiding Suryakumar Yadav. Suryakumar will resume leadership duties. During a press conference, when asked if he will be under rest break for some games, Rohit and head coach Mark Boucher quickly responded.These statements are in connection to team India’s participation in the ICC WTC final and hosting of the upcoming ODI World Cup later this year in October-November. “It’s up to the franchises now. They own them now. We have given some directives to the teams. But in the end, it depends on the franchises. And more importantly, it’s up to the players. Emphasizing the importance of players taking care of their bodies and communicating if they need a break.” Rohit said, as quoted by the media.
