Speaking a day before the event, Shami said: “This award is a dream come true”. All life passes and people will not win this award. It is a great joy and I am proud.

“A lot of people are still watching movies and watching other people win these awards all their lives. It is an unfulfilled dream for many,” he told

Mohammed Shami has been out of the Indian cricket team since the ODI World Cup where the national team reached the final against Australia. The pacer skips the T20I series against Australia. He was later called up to the South African team but was held back by an injury. Shami faces missing the first two Test matches against England, the series which starts on January 25.

“It’s part of the game, injured or not, to take time to recover. The most important thing is to appreciate the love that the fans give to the players. We will try to get back on the ground as soon as possible,” said the Gujarat Titans all-rounder.
