Most of the names on the commentary panel in the IPL are retired cricketers, radio jockeys, or professional sports presenters. Still, some active cricketers will be there in this season behind the mic in the upcoming money league season.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at five active cricketers who have chosen to work as commentators in the 2023 IPL season.
1. Dhawal Kulkarni works as a commentator at IPL 2023
Dhawal Kulkarni worked as a Hindi commentator for Star Sports at IPL 2022. He joined the Jio Cinema Marathi commentator team for IPL 2023. Kulkarni had enrolled for the player auction in both the 2022 and 2023 seasons. But no other team showed interest in him. However, some reports have claimed that he got an offer from Mumbai Indians as a replacement. But his name still features in the Marathi commentators list for the upcoming season.
2. Steve Smith
Australian Test and ODI vice-captain Steve Smith failed to register for the 2023 IPL auction. He also remained unsold at last year’s mega auction. His last IPL appearance was in 2021 for the Delhi Capitals. Smith has decided

3. Kedar Jadhav
Kedar Jadhav put in some fantastic performances for India in ODI cricket but dropped in 2020. He did not get an IPL contract after the 2021 season either. Kedar Jadhav will do Marathi commentary for Jio Cinema’s Marathi commentary panel this year. It will be interesting to see how he performs in his new role.
4. Hanuma Vihari
Hanuma Vihari was a regular part of the Indian test team until last year. He has been among Andhra’s top domestic cricketers but IPL teams have not shown any interest in his services for the last two years. Hanuma Vihari will work as a Telugu commentator for Jio Cinema this year.
5. KB Arun Karthik
Arun Karthik has been part of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the past. Karthik currently plays for the Puducherry team in domestic cricket. He had a breakout season at the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy where he hit 684 runs with a 68.4 average. The goalkeeper and batsman will work as a Tamil commentator for Jio Cinema.
