Five days later the 12th anniversary of India’s 2011 World Cup victory over Sri Lanka in the final. Former India captain MS Dhoni inaugurated the Victory Monument at the Wankhede Stadium. It was on the eve of the IPL 2023 match between the Mumbai Indians Stadium and Chennai Super Kings.
They erected the victory monument on the spot where the legendary six Dhoni winners landed in the stands. 12 years ago
on the night of April 2 at Wankhede Stadium, Dhoni had sent the winning six at the stadium and a billion more across the country. That long six sealed India’s second cup win for the first time in 28 years since the historic triumph from 1983 under the leadership of Kapil Dev.In commemoration of this magnificent victory on home soil, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) decided to honor this Indian team and their captain Dhoni by erecting a memorial at the very spot where the six-match winners landed.
