Messi returns to Paris and rejoins Mbappe, Neymar in the hunt for Champions League glory

After completing a splendid journey in Qatar World Cup, and spending quality time with family during the Christmas holidays, Lionel Messi on Wednesday came back to Paris to join his club Paris Saint-Germain.

The 35-year-old visited PSG’s training center on the same day. He was spotted meeting his club teammates, the most prominent being Neymar. Messi was also honored by his teammates and coaching staff for his World Cup-winning heroics.

PSG has played only two league 1 matches losing the last one 1-3 since the club-level game resumed. While The Nasser Al-Khelaifi-headed club won its tie against Strasbourg at home, it faced an embarrassing loss away against Lens on Monday.

French superstar Kylian Mbappe, who showed a valiant effort for France against Argentina in the FIFA World Cup final match on December 18, has already joined the club soon after completing the World Cup. He has played two games.

PSG will next meet with LB Chateauroux in the Round of 64 ties of the French Cup on Saturday. However, Messi could only be back in PSG’s starting XI for PSG’s next Ligue 1 match against Angers on January 12.

PSG is placed in the top position of the Ligue 1 table with 14 wins from 17 matches. The Argentine forward has netted 12 goals and assisted 14 times across 19 matches for his club this term.

Here, it’s pertinent to write that there has been speculation about Messi’s club career following the World Cup win. Reports have suggested that the 7-time Ballon d’Or winner is close to extending his assignment with the PSG as a part of the contract as his current contract is about to end of this season.
