The Bharat Grand Prix, the Indian round of the MotoGP championship, originally set for September, has been rescheduled to March 2025. This decision, made by the race promoters, aims to ensure a better experience for both participants and spectators.
Reason for the Postponement
Initial reports suggested that the delay was due to unsettled dues with Dorna, the rights holder. These reports followed last year’s inaugural event, raising doubts about the second edition, initially planned for September 20-22. However, the stakeholders have refuted this claim.
Stakeholder Meeting and Decisions
A crucial meeting took place on Tuesday, involving Dorna, co-promoters Fairstreet Sports, and the Uttar Pradesh government. During this discussion, all parties agreed to shift the race to March 2025, targeting either the first or second week.
Fairstreet Sports CEO, Pushkar Nath Srivastava, emphasized that the decision was mutually agreed upon. “We decided collectively to move the race to March next year. The weather in September is unsuitable for the race, making it difficult for riders and marshals, as
we experienced last year,” he explained.Clarifying the Misconceptions
Srivastava also addressed the rumors about unpaid dues, stating that all payments had been made as scheduled, with only a few remaining to be settled. He asserted that the postponement was primarily due to the challenging weather conditions and the packed race calendar.
Anticipation for Greater Attendance
The inaugural event saw an impressive turnout, with over 50,000 fans filling half of the Buddh International Circuit. Srivastava is optimistic about even higher attendance in March, citing better weather conditions as a significant factor. “We expect a larger crowd in March because the weather will be more favorable,” he added.
The shift of the Bharat Grand Prix to March 2025 promises a more comfortable and enjoyable experience for everyone involved. With all stakeholders in agreement and the anticipation of larger crowds, the upcoming event is set to be a significant highlight in the MotoGP calendar.
