India Rises Five Places to 101 In Latest FIFA Rankings

This was the first ranking of the year, the last was on December 22nd. India is now one place in New Zealand and one place above Kenya. The India men’s soccer team climbed five places to 101 in the FIFA rankings on Thursday. Building on victories over Myanmar and Kyrgyzstan in the recent tri-nation tournament.1-0 and 2-0 victories over Myanmar and Kyrgyzstan respectively in Imphal.

Last month saw India gain 8.57 Elo points and five spots, having previously been 106th and just one spot below reached the top 100. This was the first ranking of the year, the previous one was on December 22nd. India is now one place in New Zealand and one place above Kenya. With a total of 1200.66 points, the team around Igor Stimac is in 19th place out of 46 Asian nations. India’s best finish was 94, received in 1996. The country had rarely broken out of the top 100. World Champion Argentina moved up one spot to the top of the list. France, Brazil, Belgium, England, the Netherlands, Croatia, Italy, Portugal and Spain follow Argentina in the top 10. Japan leads in the ranking among Asian countries.
