IND vs NZ 1st ODI: Tom Latham, and Kane Williamson Power New Zealand to win by 7 wickets against India

Tom Latham’s unbeaten 145 off 104 balls and Kane Williamson’s 94* off 98 balls power New Zealand to win the first ODI of three matches series against India on Friday. The duo scored 221 runs as a partnership for the fourth wicket at Eden Park in Auckland to chase down the 307-run target with 17 balls to spare, reaching 309 for 3 in 47.1 overs.

For India, Umran Malik took two wickets of opener Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell, while Shardul Thakur got one. Arshdeep spent the most runs (68 in 8.1 ov) with an 8.33 economy rate. 

Earlier, invited to bat, India posted 306/7 in 50 overs. Shreyas Iyer top-scored with 80 off 76 balls while captain Shikhar Dhawan (72 off 77 balls) and Shumbhman Gill (50 off 65 balls) scored scintillating fifties. Washington Sundar contributed 37* off 16 balls for India to raise the above target. For NZ, Lockie Ferguson and Tim Southee took three wickets each.

It was India’s first ODI loss after the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2022. Earlier, the two sides played three matches T20Is in which India have become victorious by 1-0.

The two sides will meet next on Sunday, November 27 at Seddon Park in Hamilton for their second game of the ongoing three matches series.
