Hosts Qatar have become the first team to knock out of the FIFA World Cup 2022. With a second straight loss against Senegal 3-1 in Group A, they arrived very close to stopping their World Cup campaign before an uninspired England missed the chance to wrap up qualification for the last 16 following a 0-0 draw with the United States.
It’s the earliest exit by a host nation in FIFA World Cup’s 92-year history, and only the second home team to knock out in the group stage, after South Africa in 2010. With the 4 points, Netherlands and Ecuador are placed in first and second position respectively in the Group A points table, while Senegal is in third place with 3 points, and Qatar is at the bottom having 0.
