Davis Cup: AITA names five-member Indian team for World Group 1 play-off away tie against Denmark

The All India Tennis Association (AITA) has announced the five-member squad for the Davis Cup World Group 1 play-off away tie against Denmark on February 3-4 at the Royal Stage Stadium in Hillerod.

Mukund Sasikumar, Prajnesh Gunneswaran, Ramkumar Ramanathan, Rohan Bopanna, and Yuki Bhambri has been included in the squad.

Sumit Nagal will be the reserve player, while Rohit Rajpal will be leading the Indian team.

Soon after announcing the squad, the AITA shared the news on its official Twitter handle while writing,

“A glimpse of team India for the Davis Cup World Group 1 Playoff tie against Denmark.”

The team was announced after the virtual selection committee meeting chaired by Nandan Bal. In March, India defeated Denmark 4–0 in their Davis Cup 2022 World Group I playoff match at the Delhi Gymkhana club. The Indian team then lost 3-1 to Norway in their World Group I away game at Lillehammer.

According to AITA, the players were chosen based on their performance and availability.

Other selectors were Balram Singh and Sai Jayalakshmi, as well as captain Rohit Rajpal, coach Zeeshan Ali and AITA secretary general Anil Dhupar. On Friday, Rajpal was retained as captain. The 51-year-old Treasurer of AITA was recently elected to the Board of Directors of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).
