The brief story
Sri Lanka’s All-rounder Chamika Karunaratne on a weekday received an annual suspension ban from all sorts of cricket. The cause is for violating the contract of land Cricket (SLC) throughout the World cup T20 tournament in Australia.
As Karunaratne pleaded guilty to all or any charges levelled against him; as well as breaching many clauses within the Player Agreement, SLC declared adding “Disciplinary inquiry was dole out by the 3-member inquiry panel into the alleged violations by the national level player”.
Earlier, reports indicated that Karunaratne had reportedly been concerned in a very fisticuff at a casino throughout the T20 World Cup. However, once questioned by the IANS, SLC didn’t reveal the precise charges against the bowling all arounder.
“Considering the seriousness of the violations committed by Mr. Karunaratne, the Inquiry Panel by its report has counselled the chief Committee of the SLC to powerfully warn the player to refrain from more violations. This is to impose a penalty which will not have a control on his cricketing career,” SLC declared.
Following the findings and proposals of the inquiry panel, the SLC’s govt Committee has two-handed an annual ban from participating in every form of Cricket. Thedeclared ban was suspended for an amount of 1 year. Karunaratne was penalized too, with the amount of USD5,000. Karunaratne has been dropped from the ODI squad facing the Afghanistan team in a three-match series beginning on Nov 25 in Kandy.
