The Australian state of Victoria has withdrawn from hosting the 2026 Commonwealth Games, with Premier Dan Andrews stating that he is unwilling to spend up to A$7 billion on “a 12-day sporting event.”

Andrews stated that the cost had ballooned and that he would instead shift funds to state housing and sporting infrastructure.
