The South American Football Confederation, CONMEBOL has honored the 35-year-old Messi with its statue and the Staff of Football Leadership and Command. I will place a statue of Messi next to football legends Pelé and Diego Maradona in the CONMEBOL Museum.

Messi inspired Argentina to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup after beating France 4-2 on penalties in Qatar. Messi also received replays of the World Cup and final’s trophies won by Argentina after beating Italy during the ceremony ahead of the Copa Libertadores draw. “Welcome to the world champions,” said Tapia at the unveiling ceremony attended by current and former Argentine players.  “I feel very lucky. This honor is very, very special,” Messi said after unveiling a plaque with his name on it. “To know that his name will be Lionel Andres Messi is something wonderful.”
